History

The Center for the Study of Middle-Sized Cities started at Sangamon State University in 1972 as a project among faculty members in the Public Affairs department. The center was to study different areas of life in specific sized cities, such as Springfield, Illinois. At some point in the 1980s, the Center changed its name to the Center for Community and Regional Studies. This reorganization didn’t last much longer, and the center was incorporated in the Public Affairs department in the early 1990s
