The general purpose of the Airport Study Project was to determine interest in and attitudes toward, airline service to and from Springfield (especially airlines in the area such as Ozark and Air Illinois); the ultimate purpose was to suggest ways to increase use of service. The file fully documents the study, presenting data gained by use of five questionnaires, including the Quality of Life survey.

Only the data summaries (Boxes 1 & 2) are open to inspection. Access to tapes and transcripts are RESTRICTED and requires written permission from the CSMC. This records group consists of recorded interviews with Asian-Americans about their lives in and their feelings about America and Springfield Illinois. Subjects from various countries, including Pakistan, Korea, China, Philippines and India.

The Quality of Life Project combined statistics with subjective reports (through questionnaires and interviews) for eight cities: Bloomington-Normal, Champaign-Urbana, Decatur, East St. Louis, Peoria, Rockford, Rock Island-Moline, and Springfield.
J6/20/6. Center for the Study of Middle Size Cities Citizen's Attitudes of Public School Dst 186
The Center for the Study of Middle Size Cities designed and implemented this study under the sponsorship of the American Association of University Women to identify attitudes of citizens of District #186 toward the public school system. The survey records include interview and screening materials. Working papers are boxed. Findings (computer printouts) are shelved unboxed with working papers.

Records of the Human Resource Inventory Project include planning papers, code books, correspondence, questionnaires, drafts and final reports, and reference reports.
J6/20/8. Center for the Study of Middle Size Cities Quality of Life Among the Aging Project
These are the planning papers and the preliminary data from an unfunded project on Quality of Life Among the Aging. Included are letters, memos, a bibliography on aging, census statistics on aging for Springfield from 1900 to 1970, characteristics of Older Persons in Ilinois, and information about Senior Citizens Commission of Springfield, Senior Citizens of Sangamon County (including the White Cottage of Springfield), and other materials.

Newspaper clippings of the Center arranged by city and topic. The cities covered are Decatur, Peoria and Springfield (including the Ice Storm of March/April 1978), Illinois. Included are some stories about Morton, Illinois and Richland Community College. Topics include a wide range of community concerns: city government, schools, housing, public health, water quality, development, taxes, police/crime, zoning, and others.

The Center for Community & Regional Studies evolved from the CSMSC. The latter generated these records that document student employment, graduate assistantship program, & Legislative Government Internship Program information. Also included are regional research studies pertaining to hospitals, the airport study, crime, mobile home living and quality of life.
