Scope and Contents
This collection documents the inception and early history of the University Assembly and its structure of councils, committees, and commissions. It includes agendas and minutes of the Assembly, the Executive Committee and numerous ad hoc and standing committees. It also includes letters and memos about the problems and questions raised in establishing and implementing policy revealing the concerns of administrators, faculty members, staff members, students, and citizens of the community. (Copies of Assembly bills and resolutions should be pulled from this series when the assembly's copies-of-record are in place in the University Archives.

History
Sangamon State University’s leadership was led by a President from its beginning through to its incorporation into the University of Illinois system where it would switch to a chancellery. The Office of the President would be the office that ran the university, dictating policy and helping grow the university. The first president of SSU was Robert Spencer and ended with Naomi Lynn (who would transition to Chancellor).
