Scope and Contents

This collection contains the self-study reports that were prepared by the presidentially appointed North Central Association (NCA). It also includes NCA visitation team reports and the SSU produced Agenda for Action report which the 1974 review of SSU’s NCA self-study report of the same year.

This collection deals with reports, working papers, questionnaires, fact sheets, and reference material in the university’s dealings with the NCA.

There are three series, One, the reference files and academic program proposal files; two, the raw data for the surveys; and three, The Library Committee working papers.

History

The North Central Association (NCA) began in 1895 when 36 administrators of schools, colleges, and universities that were in midwestern states met. The NCA’s first objective was to establish close relationships between colleges and secondary schools. The states involved was eventually expanded to 19 states that were engaged in having institutions of higher education. The NCA lasted through 2014 when it was merged into AdvancED and the Higher Learning Commission.

Transferred from North Central Association Committee in 1983, October 14, 1974, and March 25, 1988. The Library Committee Working Papers were transferred from Judy Everson on July 29, 1974, and June 29, 1990.

Processing Information

This collection was reprocessed in August 2024. Two separate collections were incorporated into one because they dealt with the same subject material. The order was kept as close to the original as possible.
