Scope and Contents

This collection contains the personal papers of Charles T. Robb relating to his time as a member of the Handy Writers’ Colony and his life after leaving the colony. It contains correspondence with colony leader Lowney Handy and member Charles Wright, notes about the colony leaders, journal entries, and poetry written by Robb. It is arranged alphabetically.

A 1951 edition of From Here to Eternity was separated from the collection and placed in Special Collections with the call number PS 3560 049 F7 1951 c.3. It is signed by James Jones, with an inscription to Charles Robb.

Biography

Charles T. Robb was born in 1934. He was a member of the Handy Writer’s Colony from 1953 to 1957, and continued corresponding with Lowney Handy about his writing until 1963. Robb passed away on February 1, 1997. He donated a large portion of his estate to the James Jones Literary Society, out of gratitude for the support provided to him by Lowney Handy, Harry Handy, and James Jones, and with the goal of supporting future writers.
