Scope and Contents
This collection consists of material relating to the WUIS/WIPA FM radio program "Skirting Convention: Twelve Women Who Changed Springfield". It includes background research materials on each of the women as well as a press release and a program that contains the audio CD of the radio broadcasts.
Also included are the audio tapes of the interviews conducted with several of the women as well as a video recording of Velma Carey. The cassette tapes of the interviews are in the oral history collection.

History
This program was an oral history series that was produced by WUIS 91.9 FM and was funded by a grant from the Illinois Humanities Council. The program, authored by Kavitha Cardoza, profiled twelve women who influenced history and worked for social change in Springfield, Illinois. The segments ran on air starting on March 8, 2007. On September 27, 2007, a CD of the program was released.
