Scope and Contents
This collection contains the personal papers of Henry Weinhoeft relating to his time as an ironworker and member of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, and Ornamental Iron Workers, Local Union 46. It includes correspondence, financial records, foreman’s reports, membership ledgers, photographs, and blueprints relating to Weinhoeft’s union activity, construction projects, and personal finances. The collection is divided into three series: Papers, Photographs, and Blueprints.
Series I: Papers, 1909-1997 contains correspondence, product advertisements, newsletters, financial records, and membership ledgers relating to Weinhoeft’s union activity, construction projects, and personal finances. There is also a history of the Weinhoeft family written by John J. Weinhoeft. Arranged alphabetically, except for oversized financial and membership ledgers, which are located at the end of the series.
Series II: Photographs, 1907-1912, contains photographs of construction sites related to Weinhoeft’s career as an ironworker. They feature the construction of bridges in Montana, Arkansas and Iowa, and Lanphier and Springfield High Schools in Springfield, Illinois. Arranged alphabetically.
Series III: Blueprints, 1911-1925, contains blueprints recording steel and structural work for buildings in Springfield and other sites in the Midwest. Buildings include Douglas School, Empire Hotel, the Knights of Columbus Building, the Lyric Theater, and the Princess Theatre, among others. Arranged alphabetically according to business name.
