Henry Weinhoeft Papers
Scope and Contents
This collection contains the personal papers of Henry Weinhoeft relating to his time as an ironworker and member of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, and Ornamental Iron Workers, Local Union 46. It includes correspondence, financial records, foreman’s reports, membership ledgers, photographs, and blueprints relating to Weinhoeft’s union activity, construction projects, and personal finances. The collection is divided into three series: Papers, Photographs, and Blueprints.
Series I: Papers, 1909-1997 contains correspondence, product advertisements, newsletters, financial records, and membership ledgers relating to Weinhoeft’s union activity, construction projects, and personal finances. There is also a history of the Weinhoeft family written by John J. Weinhoeft. Arranged alphabetically, except for oversized financial and membership ledgers, which are located at the end of the series.
Series II: Photographs, 1907-1912, contains photographs of construction sites related to Weinhoeft’s career as an ironworker. They feature the construction of bridges in Montana, Arkansas and Iowa, and Lanphier and Springfield High Schools in Springfield, Illinois. Arranged alphabetically.
Series III: Blueprints, 1911-1925, contains blueprints recording steel and structural work for buildings in Springfield and other sites in the Midwest. Buildings include Douglas School, Empire Hotel, the Knights of Columbus Building, the Lyric Theater, and the Princess Theatre, among others. Arranged alphabetically according to business name.

Biography
Henry Weinhoeft was born on January 27, 1886 in Springfield, Illinois, to Ferdinand Weinhoeft and Katie [Spies] Weinhoeft.
Weinhoeft was an ironworker and contractor. During his early career he worked for the All Steel Bridge Company, erecting bridges and other steel structures in states including Arkansas, Montana, and Iowa. He worked on the hydro-electric dam across the Mississippi River at Keokuk, Iowa, and served as the foreman for many projects. In the mid-1920s he opened the Weinhoeft Steel Company, which was later lost during the Depression. Weinhoeft was a founding member of the Local Union 46 branch of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, and Ornamental Iron Workers.
Henry Weinhoeft married Grace Proctor on July 8, 1908, with whom he had eight children: Faye, Joe, Henry, Florence, Edna, Ethel, Elizabeth, and Wanda. Grace passed away on September 17, 1968 and Henry passed on September 22, 1969.
