History of the Springfield Marine Bank, chartered in 1851, written by the noted historian Paul Angle. Includes accounts of the bank's founding as the Springfield Marine and Fire Insurance Company, its connections with the river trade, its connections with Abraham Lincoln, its continuance through financial crises of the 1850s and 1870s, and its role in the Civil War.
