This collection consists of business records of a general store in Audubon, Illinois. The Ledger (covering 1857 to 1862) covers personal accounts with a page for each name, dates and items purchased, costs and amounts paid on account. The Record (covering 1863-1865) covers sales from day to day with the names of purchasers, goods bought, and prices.

The business ledger contains accounts of commodities, businesses, banks, and individuals who conducted business with Clark and Read. Each account includes both debit and credit columns with the date, the entity to whom payment was given or from whom received, the form of payment or receipt made, and the amount.
