Scope and Contents
Frank R. Sullivan, attorney and Springfield native, discusses Springfield in the early and mid 20th century: growing up, neighborhoods, education at Portable School, the creation of Lake Springfield, coal mining, strikes, the clash between the UMW and PMA, his father's work as a mine attorney, prohibition and the Depression, politics, and his work with historic sites and societies. He discusses at length his WWII navy service and work with the Service Recognition Board. Also discusses his college education, visits to Chicago and the 1919 White Sox scandal.
