This memoir is a "simulated interview" with Carol Reno Teixeira (actually compiled from written memoirs and reminiscences). Teixeira, nurse, discusses her work, travels, and experiences with the IIAA in Latin America and Africa. In the Amazon Valley of Brazil: weather, geographical features, and training women for a variety of health services, the San Francisco Valley, UNICEF milk program and child hygiene centers. In El Salvador: field and office work, colleagues, activities outside work, and the people of El Salvador. In Surinam: language problems, nurses training programs, and life in general. In Liberia, Africa: living and working conditions, programs and problems, language difficulties, native living and working conditions, diseases and treatments, school health programs, and government agency problems. In reference to each country food, language, housing, and hygiene conditions are detailed.
