Luedecke, a Baptist minister, recalls family life in the German community in St. Louis in the early 20th century: social gatherings, games and recreation, music, home, meals, and nature; women's roles and liberation; education at William Jewell College, Shurtleff College and Southern Baptist Seminary; work in the ministry; philosophies; early employment and work as a salesman; libraries; living in Illinois, St. Louis, and New Mexico; transportation; and his own family. Also talks about the Mississippi River and coin collecting.
