O'Brien, Democratic member of the Illinois State Senate, 1951-1965, discusses the events and issues of his years in the General Assembly: the 1950 campaign, reapportionment, legislative and judicial reforms, education issues, public aid, and work as Senate minority leader. Also discusses his earlier years: life and family in Chicago, education, DePaul law school, law practice, early political activities, and WWII. He also recalls the years after leaving the General Assembly as a circuit court judge.
