Scope and Contents
Kempe, magazine creator and publisher, discusses his work in the pre-automation printing trade and small press publishing: producing the advertising newspaper The Circulator, his membership in the International Typographical Union, experiences as a "tramp" printer, work for the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, reading proof for the St. Louis Post, producing Blip magazine (Brave Little Impossible Publication) in Nokomis, Illinois, and creating and managing the Joka Press. He recalls the Bottomley - Ruffing - Schalk Baseball Museum in Nokomis and the stories, features, and comics in Blip. He also recalls his family background and childhood, games and entertainment, Christian Science upbringing, fantasy and literary pursuits, school days, and WWII work in an ordnance plant. Also mentions driving early automobiles, the assassination of John F. Kennedy, his political beliefs and the Vietnam War.
