ILLINOIS GENERAL ASSEMBLY ORAL HISTORY PROGRAM
Leland Kennedy, Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives 1947-55 and 1963-75, discusses his years in the General Assembly: Illinois political figures, issues, and controversies; 1946 campaign and election; personalities in the legislature, legislative technique, issues in banking, public aid, agriculture, industry, and unions. He also discusses his family background in Alton, Illinois, employment with Shell Oil Company, early political activities, service on the Alton City Council, his service in WWII, and work as an administrative aide to Illinois House Speaker William Redmond.
