MENTAL HEALTH CARE PROJECT Russell Barnes, former patient aide at the Jacksonville (Illinois) State Hospital, discusses changes in treatment and public attitudes toward mental illness. He recalls working conditions, daily tasks, and relations between supervisors and co-workers. He also discusses patients' living conditions, recreation, meals, and therapy. He also discusses the hospital's tuberculosis cottages, underground tunnels, gymnasium, gardens, carousel, and miniature golf course.
