ADLAI E. STEVENSON PROJECT
Arvey discusses his experiences in Illinois politics during his tenure as chairman of the Cook County Democratic Committee (1946-51) and as Democratic National Committeeman. He recalls his relationship with Adlai Stevenson, Stevenson's presidential campaigns of 1952 and 1956, his gubernatorial administration, support for Stevenson within the party, and the patronage system. Arvey also discusses his own political philosophy and family background.
