Gardiner, long-time resident of Springfield, discusses jobs he has held, Springfield in the 1920's, businesses, his work as a glazier and union membership. His memoir covers a broad spectrum of public and domestic life in early and mid 20th century: entertainment and recreation, baseball and professional sports, Depression, WWII homefront, defense work at the Allis-Chalmers plant, and discrimination against African Americans. Also mentions such public figures as Will Rogers, Franklin Roosevelt, Charles Lindbergh, and Huey Long.
