Scope and Contents
Dr. Edwin A. Lee, doctor of medicine and surgeon in Springfield, recalls his education and experiences as a doctor and African American: education at Talladega College, Morehouse College, and Meharry Medical College; his duty as a medical officer in the Army in the South Pacific during WWII; his residency at St Mary's Hospital, St. Louis; and the circumstances that led to him to Springfield to take up private practice. He also discusses his efforts to abolish racial discrimination in Springfield, church membership, civic activities, membership on the Springfield school board, and receiving the first Copley Citizen of the Year award.
