Kuhnke, native of Germany, discusses his experiences as an immigrant to the United States. He recalls his family life, childhood and responsibilities, holiday celebrations, food ways, toy-making, family in Germany, siblings, his education, anti-German discrimination during WWI and WWII, effects of the Depression, employment with Western Electric in Chicago, Catholicism, his marriage, raising his own children, and technological advances over the years including automobiles, airplanes, television, and streetcars, and the elevated.
