ILLINOIS COAL: THE LEGACY OF AN INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY Klein, coal miner, recalls his work in the mines near Collinsville and Taylorville, Illinois. He discusses growing up in a company town, his family's lifestyle, working conditions in the mines, immigrant co-workers, management structure, unions, and the grievance process. He recalls his family history, his own family life, and makes references to John L. Lewis, his service during WWII, and the Progressive Miners of America.
