Scope and Contents
Kinter, native of Loami, Illinois, discusses her careers as a nurse and farm manager: her nurse's training, reactions to working women, 1918 influenza epidemic, medical care in the early 1900's, WWI and the medical profession, physician-nurse relationships, duties as a nurse and as an anesthetist, work as superintendent at Springfield Hospital and Elmhurst Hospital, and training student nurses. She also discusses managing the family farm, changes in farming techniques, and her participation in the Sangamon County Home Bureau. She recalls early 20th century rural life including childhood activities, farm life, holidays, schooling, and social life. She also mentions the treatment of an African American patient and home remedies.
