Kiser, Inez (1882-1985): Interview and memoir
Scope and Contents
Mrs. Kiser recalls late 19th and early 20th century life: her family's experiences in Oregon, Kansas, and in the Oklahoma Territory, education, traveling by stagecoach, society in the west, dating and courtship, sewing and dress making, family, friendships, marriage and abandonment by her husband, politics and voting. She briefly discusses encounters with Indians in the Pacific Northwest, quilts, train travel, illnesses prevalent in the late 19th century, Depression, experiences of her relatives during the Civil War, and life in Springfield. She also recalls attitudes toward minorities, drinking, and marriage. The memoir includes numerous illustrations of persons and places mentioned by Kiser.
