Scope and Contents

Killinger, former mayor of Collinsville, Illinois and news editor of the Collinsville Herald, recalls his careers in journalism and politics. He discusses Collinsville: its residents, local government, events and issues as mayor, service as township supervisor, and police and fire departments. He also discusses his career as a journalist: news stories and interviews with Eugene V. Debs, Red Grange, and coal miners' union organizer Frank Farrington. He also discusses his family background, family life, entertainment and childhood games, school days, transportation, prohibition and gambling, Ku Klux Klan, Depression, WPA projects, and the home-front during WWII.
