Scope and Contents

This memoir is a transcript of a program held at the Springfield Art Association on January 23, 1993. Bunn, a banker, Graham, a lawyer, and Springer and Trutter, architects, discuss the histories of Springfield architectural landmarks, including the Springfield Art Association, the Lincoln home, the Dana-Thomas house, the Old State Capitol, various churches, and downtown theaters including the Orpheum. The narrators also recall street cars and trolleys, railroad passenger service, early automobiles and hard roads, the John Hay Homes, Washington Park and other city parks, Oak Ridge Cemetery, and notable fires at the Armory and the Dome Building at the fairgrounds.
