History

The Oral History Office was an office that was established by Davis Collum in 1979 to record the history of various groups of people in Springfield and the surrounding area. The office’s goal was to preserve the local oral histories of Sangamon/Springfield area for future generations. The office also presented their oral histories to the public via various pop-up exhibits focusing on whatever the current topic at hand was. There was also a large amount of student involvement in this office by conducting the interviews and recording them, then later transcribing the tapes. The Oral History Office was closed in 1991 due to a lack of interest as well as a lack of funding.

The Illinois General Assembly Research was a research project that was done by the Oral History Office to give a comprehensive history of both houses of Illinois State Government, and the Illinois State Government more broadly.
