Scope and Contents
This collection contains the records of the Springfield Coalition for Fair Electric Rates, and documents the organization’s effort to reform electric rates in the city. Materials include correspondence, press releases, reports from CWLP and consultants, pamphlets, position papers, personal notes, rate schedules, meeting minutes, and related documents. The collection also includes a small amount of material relating to other community concerns, including the proposed decontamination of a nuclear plant in Dresden, IL and relocation of railroads in the city of Springfield.

Biography
The Springfield Coalition for Fair Electricity Rates was formed in 1976 by concerned individuals and representatives of community organizations in Springfield. The group was dedicated to electric rate reform in response to the proposed rate hike by the municipally owned utility City Water, Light, and Power (CWLP).
