Hudd, a refugee from the Russian Revolution, discusses his life in Russia, China, and the United States. He recalls the city of Omsk; Cadet Corps School, home and social life; political unrest in Russia and the abdication of the Czar; changes after the Revolution; the family's flight to Vladivostok and life on a Russian island; flight to China; arrival in the United States; his experiences in Alaska, San Francisco, and Chicago; musical career with a Russian balalaika band; music and guitars; celebrities; working conditions at the Chicago Tribune; life in Springfield; his deteriorating physical and mental health; treatment for tuberculosis and his mental breakdown; and employment with Allis Chalmers.
