Scope and Contents
Dr. Hill, a physician, discusses his experiences practicing medicine from the late 19th to mid 20th century. He recalls his family background, his father's experiences during the Civil War, childhood memories in rural Middletown, Illinois, school, games, and social activities. He recalls medical school at Rush Medical College, medicines, illnesses, remedies, family diet, women's housework and childbirth, and illness and injuries among the coal miners of Athens, Illinois. He also briefly discusses his father's relationship with Abraham Lincoln.
