ILLINOIS STATECRAFT William Day, former reporter for the Illinois State Journal, recalls his experiences covering statehouse affairs, the operations and personalities of Illinois government, Illinois politicians and journalists, Springfield in the 1930's, and the work of the Illinois Legislative Council. He discusses Paul Powell, Henry Horner, John Touhy, Richard Ogilvie, Dan Walker, and the Orville Hodge scandal. He describes his work for Illinois Issues, DuPage County Life, Bloomington Pantagraph, as well as the Springfield Journal. Also discussed are Day's WWII experiences in the Air Force, weather forecasting, family background and childhood near Chicago, the University of Illinois and work on the Daily Illini.
