Scope and Contents

Burch, farmer from near Divernon, Illinois, discusses her childhood home, family and farm life, homemade foods, housework, clothing, country schools, holiday celebrations, and leisure time activities. She recalls her graduation trip, her college years at the University of Illinois, campus life, WWI, marriage and early widowhood, trip to Europe in 1930, Depression, WWII homefront, and the housing of couples released from German concentration camps. Also discusses agriculture, farming equipment, livestock, butchering, raising chickens and egg production, 4-H club, women's club, immigrant neighbors, and a trip to the Orient in 1972.
