Scope and Contents
Bryden, a long-time Springfield resident, recalls her early years in Decatur and moving to Springfield in 1906. She relates stories from her childhood, family life, holiday celebrations, chores, housework, illnesses and remedies, marriage, and raising her own family. She also discusses the city of Spring-field and its transportation facilities, roadways, parks, businesses, social activities, recreations, parks, schools, and neighborhoods. She also discusses the 1908 Springfield race riot, her father's employment with the Wabash Railroad, her participation with her husband in the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary, and employment as a social worker for Sangamon County.
