ILLINOIS COAL: THE LEGACY OF AN INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY
Frank and his brother "Fritz" Boch, coal miners, discuss coal mining in Taylorville, Illinois: the process of hand loading in the coal mines, mechanization and layoffs, working conditions, mining equipment, hazards, miners' social activities, relations between bosses and miners, strikes and riots. They also discuss their family life, father's coal mining experiences, and their parent's experiences as German immigrants.
