Scope and Contents

Beyer, proprietor of one of the first nursery schools in Chicago, discusses her childhood, education, and married life with regard to her divergence from traditional female roles. She relates family history, childhood in Garnett, Kansas; entertainment, social life and education in the early 1900's; electricity in the home, and her first automobile. She also discusses the Depression, WWI and WWII, her life in Chicago, her trip around the world, and reflects on the lives of her children and her reluctance to adhere to prescribed female behavior.
