This film was planned as the audiovisual component of the Lincoln Sites Project. Work was stopped after 15,000 ft had been shot. Some of the film is rough footage and some has preliminary editing. Out-takes are included. The theme is life in New Salem and Springfield in the days of Abraham Lincoln.

The Lincoln Sites Conference of September 28-30, 1979, was sponsored by Sangamon State University and the Illinois Humaniites Council. The title was " Lincoln's Thought and Present: A conference on Historical Site Interpretation." The records include working papers, correspondence, financial reports, programs and news clippings. The correspondence includes letters to and from noted Lincoln scholar Stephen B. Oates.

"Contemporary Perspectives on Abraham Lincoln" was originally presented as the 1976 Lincoln Intersession at Sangamon State University. Fourteen scholars discussed themes in American History addressed by Lincoln and his contemporaries. The Intersession served as the basis for the 1978 course, "Contemporary Perspectives on Abraham Lincoln." Used re-edited audio cassette tapes have frequently been used as the basis for a media or self-study course.
