Scope and Contents
This collection contains research, notes, published works, correspondence, memoranda, and course material.
Series I: Administration, 1971-1991, consists of administrative materials relating to Sangamon State University, including academic program and course development, Hawes’ personnel files [restricted], and university events. Arranged alphabetically.
Series II: Courses Taught-, 1971-1991, contains material relating to courses taught by Hawes, including syllabi, notes, student assignments [restricted], and related materials. Arranged chronologically according to term.
Series III: Clayville Rural Life Center, 1900-2012 (bulk 1972-1987), contains material relating to the creation and administration of the Clayville Rural Life Center, including extensive research, notes, memoranda, project proposals, and National Endowment for the Humanities grant reports. Arranged alphabetically. Audiovisual items containing related material can be found in Series V: Audio Cassettes.
Series IV: Research, Projects, and Publications, 1972-2002, contains material relating to Hawes’ academic work, including published papers, consultancy work for museums and public history projects, and files relating to professional organizations. Arranged alphabetically.
Series V: Audio Cassettes, 1977-1985 contains twenty audio cassettes relating to Hawes’ work.
