Personal Papers of Robert C. Spencer, President of Sangamon State University (1969-1979), consists of correspondence, reports, and other material concerning administration, admissions, Alumni, AASCU, promotions, tenure commitee, Board of Governors, business affairs, campus affairs, commencement, contracts, correspondence with other colleges, universities and state agencies, faculty, graduate program planning and development, speeches, appointment books, sabbatical leave and policy, and other matters concening the administration and operation of SSU. Material after 1978 reflects Spencer's activities of professor of Government & Public Affairs. Robert C. Spencer's papers include correspondence, reports, minutes, announcements, memos, published articles, book drafts and other materials touching on virtually every aspect of his professional life from 1951 when he began graduate study at the University of Chicago to 1988 when he retired from SSU. These papers document the founding and early history of SSU.
