Scope and Contents
Papers of Charles Schweighauser: Box 1 includes correspondence, memos, committee minutes, course proposals, lecture notes and examinations. Of particular interest are materials on Halley's comet (1985) and on the Sangamon River Valley. The file also contains a course, lecture series, pamphlet and videotape on Halley's Comet as a natural and historical phenomenom. Box 5: contains "The Sangamon River Valley" a course he taught every summer, (1983-89). It combined ecological, social and literary approaches. Box 7: contains "Sangamon Prairies, A Sense of Place." (1975-1986). A complex project from which emerged the course and documentary videotape, with clippings, correspondence and memos. Note: UIS Archives Special Collections contains "The Sangamon River [videorecording] : a sense of place" / director, Charles Schweighauser. This production examines the ecology, culture, economy, and history of the Sangamon River Valley through interviews the director, Charles Schwieghauser, conducted with residents during his 210 mile canoe trip covering the 10 counties through which the Sangamon flows.
