"The Lincolns of Springfield, Illinois" Television Documentary was a project initiated by J. Michael Lennon, director of the Office of Public Affairs Communication (OPAC) in 1987 to record the restoration of the Lincoln Home. "The Lincolns of Springfield" documented the restoration work on the home and featured interviews with experts. The goal of the hour-long documentary was to present for a general audience the details of the home's restoration and give insight to the homelife of the Lincolns. This collection (received from SSU Television Office) contains about 120 production tapes used to create the final television documentary. Nineteen tapes are Lincoln Home Interviews (LHI) with historians and restoration experts working on the project. About 100 of the tapes are detailed day-to-day specifics of the actual Lincoln Home Restoration (LHR) project. For example, LHR tape #6 is the first of three tapes that details the examination of the wallpaper in one room. Two 1" Type C tapes are the television masters for the documentary. Three reel to reel audio tapes contain the narrative portion of the documentary.
