This collection contains the records of the Center for Alternative Education, a not-for-profit private secondary school based in Springfield, Illinois from 1970-1982. Materials document the school’s objectives, philosophy, activities, financial affairs, and classroom instruction. The collection is divided into three series: Administrative Records, Financial Records, and Course Materials.

Series I: Administrative Records, 1970-1982, contains material regarding the purpose of the school, its management, policies, staffing, and day-to-day operations. Materials include correspondence, notes, legal papers, meeting minutes, student forms, and policy documents. Arranged alphabetically.

Series II: Financial Records, 1970-1983, contains material relating to the school’s finances. It includes bank statements, account ledgers, tax forms, and budget information. Arranged alphabetically.

Series III: Course Materials, 1971-1982, contains a small amount of material relating to the classes offered by the school, including planning regarding what classes to offer, weekly schedules, blank tests, discussion and reading materials, and student academic plans. Arranged alphabetically.
